Elmwood Garden Park

To improve a neighborhood that has a difficult history, this landscape work was based on a participatory design process.  This included a set of three Spanish/English workshops, two written surveys, and a community build day.  Elmwood residents expressed great interest in plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds, and for lots of artistic, hand-made elements to be included in this public pocket park. Elmwood residents care for the garden themselves. The project won support from the Burbank Water and Power Department for its low-water use elements, and from the Home Depot Foundation.  Plantings include natives, low-water use plants and seasonal plantings chosen by the resident gardeners.
